AJATTARA - Kalmanto

This is the new album release of the Finnish band, and once again an album hard to define but not so hard to like. Complex and very heavy, with enough ritualistic elements and styles, this band knows for sure how to create music, that it's interesting and really out of the ordinary. Blending elements from Black Metal, Doom, Gothic and Death, into a unique and well performed style, this band manages to keep the listener interested until the end. The vocals are extreme, sometimes flirting with Death and some others with Black, with the music having a dark and ominous atmosphere. Often enough, the band slows down to a Doom style of music, while others speed up to more extreme forms. The lyrics are in Finnish, as with their previous releases, something that helps in the atmosphere as well. All in all, this album can proudly bear the trademark of the band, although a few weaker moments do exist, not as many to destroy the whole result though. If you are a fan of the band, then you should check them out.
8/10
