BULLET - Highway Pirates

This is the third album of the Swedish band, and a certain step forward in their career. The band is playing Heavy Metal, sometimes old fashioned enough, with some influences from AC/DC, with whom they also toured with. Slightly improved from their previous album, but also keeping the good things of this release, Highway Pirates is a Rock'n'Roll hymn. An album full of energy, good vibes, and a feeling that the band is performing just for their own amusement, makes this record fun to listen to. Songs ideal to be performed live, with nice melodies, a "party" feeling, killer melodies, catchy parts to sing along, and harsh vocals, are the main characteristics of their music. The songs are well written, with nice guitar-driven melodies, and are all moving to the same quality level, with no fillers or less good moments. The production is as clear as it should be, but also preserves the "dirty" feeling of the music. Ideal for listening while driving, while having beers with friends, but most of all, watching them performing live, Bullet is one of the bands that manage to keep things simple, but hit straight to the target. Enjoy.

CREMATORY - Black Pearls - Greatest Hits

Not much can anyone add about Crematory, that hasn't already been said. So, the famous Gothic Metal German act is now releasing a pack for all their fans, and all those that want to have a crash-course to what Crematory stands for. Consisting on a double CD release and one DVD with their video clips, two live performances, a 60 minute on Wacken Open Air and a 30 minute on M´era Luna, enough backstage material, and backstage recordings, this release has all that it takes to become collector's item. Unfortunately, I didn't had the chance to see the live performances as well, since the promo pack was containing only the two Cd's, but still, it's an outstanding release. More than 30 songs, carefully picked one by one, this is a good choice for those that want to have mostof their hits gathered together into one release. Songs that vary from almost acoustic to Melodic Death, with a splendid combination of clear and brutal vocals, haunting keyboards, and crunchy guitar riffs, Crematory's melodies have a way to stick into your mind, and no matter how many times heard before, you will find yourself singing along and tapping your feet with the rhythm. There is no less good song here, and this makes this album one of those that skip button is not necessary. Add to those, the collection of all video clips, and the two live shows, and you get yourself a good deal.

MISTHERIA - Dragon Fire

One thing I like about guest appearances is that there are a lot of artists that I like into a single release. This is exactly the case here, where the original members are only Mistheria, the keyboardist, John Macaluso on drums, and Alberto Rigoni on bass. Along with them, there are five singers and as many guitarists, all well known and famous artists, that give their own trademark to each song. The style of music is Neoclassical, but since it contains enough influences as well, it's much more diverse than that. There's a song that is very close to AOR, some more complex, close to Progressive moments here and there, but always catchy, melodic and to high quality standards. The keyboard melodies dominate the whole result, but they do it in a very wise way, adding to each song, and giving depth to the music. The production is perfect, crystal clear, the kind of production this kind of music should have. Despite the fact that the album is catchy, and has enough songs to sing along and move with the rhythm, it's not an easy album. There's a lot of Classic music here, a lot of complexity, and the listener has to be a bit more cautious to reveal all the details. Great vocals, great guitars, even greater keyboards, and perfect songs. What more can you ask?
